The ElectroPointer™ is an automated electropolisher which sharpens metallic specimens quickly and easily to uniform tip shapes for LEAP analysis. It minimizes sample preparation time and tedious manual effort, producing highly-repeatable specimen tips with via automation under computer control. Integration of a video microscope and Windows® based control charts allow easy monitoring of the polishing progress.
The ElectroPointer™ consists of an electropolisher linked to control software to optimize sample-preparation parameters to produce sharp tips for LEAP analysis. The polisher passes a current from the specimen through a small platinum loop immersed in an electrolyte, which moves lengthwise along the specimen to reduce its diameter in a zone. User-selectable end conditions allow for unattended operation for the majority of the polishing. Optimized polishing conditions may be stored for repeated preparation of uniformly-shaped specimens. It’s a "one stop shop" for metallic specimen preparation.
